Stacia George is a distinguished senior conflict expert and advisor with over 23 years of experience dedicated to mediation, facilitation, and resolution of conflicts in some of the world’s most complex settings. Her unwavering commitment to justice and security began at a young age and has since defined her professional trajectory, focusing on safeguarding individuals, communities, and nations.


Stacia is renowned for her pioneering work in challenging environments, tackling issues that many deem insurmountable. Her expertise spans across conflict and post-conflict landscapes, countering violent extremism, organized crime, and fostering justice and security sector reform, as well as governance and democracy building. She contributes that expertise as a board member of Invisible Children, which aids victims of the Lord’s Resistance Army.


Recently, she held the role of Director for Conflict Resolution at The Carter Center, where she played a pivotal role in multi-track negotiations and peace processes across global hotspots including Israel/Palestine, Syria, Sudan, Mali, and the United States. Her tenure there was also marked by tireless volunteer efforts to evacuate and resettle hundreds of Afghans facing imminent threats following the Taliban resurgence.


At Chemonics International, Stacia served as Director for West and Central Africa and Haiti, overseeing initiatives combating violent extremism, and spearheading comprehensive security sector reform strategies and programs. Later, as the Deputy Director of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives, Stacia managed intricate political programming across sixteen critical nations, including Ukraine, Colombia, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Syria. Prior to this, she distinguished herself as a Foreign Policy Fellow for Senator Chris Coons, where she supported foreign aid appropriations and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Subcommittee on Africa.


Stacia expertise is underscored by a profound academic foundation. She was a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellow in 2011. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations and International Economics, with a concentration in Conflict Management from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She also holds honors Bachelor of Arts degrees in both International Studies and Spanish from Niagara University.
